Donor Sexual

I have been made aware of a man named Trent Arsenault (many thanks, RoyalFirefly!), who refers to himself a "donorsexual".  What the hell?, you may ask.  I also asked this.

Methinks it's a donation of a different kind...

Plotting Your Sexual Orientation

Not the crime novel kind of plotting, but the math kind!

I've posted before on the Kinsey Scale, which is a way of easily illustrating your sexual orientation to people, should it become their business for whatever reason.  I thought it was pretty handy - and it is - but recently, I've been introduced to a tool for illustrating a person's preferred sexual orientation that is way more accurate and inclusive.  It's the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid!

truly straight lines and angles don't really exist in the Klein Grid

News Straight Men Have Been Waiting For!

Breasts have always been something that straight men (amongst others) are pretty enthusiastic about.  This has led to some controversy as to whether or not it is appropriate to express said enthusiasm by ogling.  Last year, a study was published that supposedly answered that question: staring at boobs is a good and healthy thing - in fact, it lengthens life expectancy!

Heartbreak

I've been debating whether or not to write about Tyler Clementi and the other young men that have recently taken their own lives as a result of bullying they each endured for being gay.  On the one hand, it's been covered to death in the mainstream news, and I don't want to be redundant.  On the other hand, though...how can I not write about it?

Bullies make rainbows cry.

GO, Steamworks!!

Last night, the Manfriend and I were taking a stroll over to one of our favorite little places to have some cocktails (who says date night can't be on a Tuesday?!), when we passed by something that gave me a natural high that lasted even after my actually-not-too-sweet gin lemon drops started warming things up.  (BTW, if you've never had a lemon drop with gin instead of vodka, you should totally give it a try - it is a beautiful thing.)

John would've understood how I felt...

Congratulations, Ricky!!!

Not that it's much of a surprise to most people, but the eminently lickable hunk of Puerto Rican yumminess that is Ricky Martin has come out of the closet. I could not be happier for him, nor for his children, who will now grow up with a father who is proud of who he is.

truth is beautiful, no?

Martin has posted a letter on his website that discusses his choice to come out, as well as the timing. My heart is just bursting, people. There is very little that makes me happier than seeing people embracing and celebrating their sexuality.

I hope his actions lend strength to others feeling as though they must live in fear and secrecy, and that this is another step on the road to the full acceptance and integration of homosexuality into our society.

Well done, Ricky Martin. Congratulations and well wishes!!

Grindr

So. Grindr. The newest thing in WiFi technology for gay men. An app for iPhone and iPod Touch that uses GPS to hook guys up for casual sex. It's like Craigslist on steroids!

Not for pepper.

On the one hand, I think this is ingenious. What a clever application of GPS technology, and way to identify a market and cater to it! On the other, the STD fighter in me cringes at the sheer number of casual sexual encounters that result from such a thing. Don't forget the condoms, men!

There are some concerns about safety and privacy. Personally, I think it's as safe as any other tryst-with-a-stranger-from-the-internet, gay or straight (meet in public and trust your heebie-jeebies, hurt feelings be damned).

There are also those that say the app perpetuates negative stereotypes of gay men as promiscuous and sex-crazed, which is probably true in some cases. As a counter, I will take this opportunity to point out that most gay men are not just looking for regular anonymous sex in random places. A bunch are, or apps like this wouldn't exist, but most are looking for someone to build a life and buy real estate with.

What are your thoughts? Have you used Grindr? What did you think?

Oh! Speaking of gay sex, there's some GREAT news! The rates of syphillis and gonorrhea among gay men in San Francisco declined in 2009!! Keep it up (and covered), men!!

UPDATE 2.19.10: Get it while you can, guys...looks like Apple is flexing their inner Big Brother again.

The Kinsey Scale

Alfred Kinsey, the granddaddy of modern sexuality research, believed that human sexual orientation is a variable thing. That a people's sexual thoughts, desires and behavior toward either their own or the opposite sex can be fluid over time. To exemplify this idea, he and his colleagues used their extensive research to devise The Kinsey Scale:

0 - exclusively heterosexual
1 - mostly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual
2 - mostly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 - equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 - mostly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 - mostly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual
6 - exclusively homosexual

I believe almost everyone is somewhere between 1 & 2 or 4 & 5, especially considering you don't necessarily need to have sex with someone to tip the scales. It's most culturally acceptable for straight women to indulge in such fantasies (in the brain and in life, not to mention porn), but I think most every person of every stripe dabbles with their "Other" at least once or twice, even if it's only in a private sexy fantasy.

I love the Kinsey scale because it shows this 'dabbling' to be the natural expression of human sexuality that it is. A straight man can get hard thinking about sucking a guy off without being gay. A gay man can get hard thinking about licking a woman's breasts without being straight. Hell, according to this scale, they can even do those things without needing to rearrange their whole sexual identity.

That's the beautiful thing - we all can, men and women alike, without any shame. And healthy sexuality free from shame is what we're aiming for here at Chakabox. It's what we're all about! Thank you Granddaddy Kinsey!

I leave you with a little something we can all shamelessly enjoy, I daresay even you Level 6 boys and Level 0 girls, because holy crap, Charlize is a stone FOX stomping down the hallway gettin' all nekkid:

Nope, I am not a Kinsey 0. And I suddenly want some perfume...
